Illumination Terrace,
Tai Hang

At a glance

District: Tai Hang

Square Footage: 800 square feet

Remodeling Budget: Approximately HKD 1.1M*

Construction Time: Approximately 5 months

The Brief:

A middle-aged DINK couple, Paul and Irene, envisioned their first shared home in Tai Hang as a calm, future-ready sanctuary for themselves and their two cats. While the apartment already offered a strong foundation in layout and views, the brief focused on thoughtful enhancements rather than drastic changes.

Key priorities included creating a pet-friendly environment without compromising aesthetics, while leaving flexibility for future lifestyle changes. The couple gravitated toward a warm, cohesive palette of blonde wood, paired with subtle feng shui considerations to bring balance and positive energy into the home. Maximizing natural light was essential, along with introducing a semi-open kitchen to foster a more connected living experience.

About The Remodel

This full remodel reimagines a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment into a highly personalized and functional home. While the original structure was largely retained, strategic spatial interventions elevated both flow and usability.

The most notable transformation lies in the kitchen, which was opened up into a semi-open concept. By introducing a semi-transparent glass partition, the design maintains visual connectivity while allowing for flexibility between open and closed configurations. The result is a brighter, more breathable layout that aligns with the couple’s lifestyle.

Living Room

A space defined by warmth and order, our newest project in Tai Hang is a home for a sweet couple and their two feline companions. The apartment’s transformation is anchored by a consistent palette of blonde wood, creating a serene and cohesive atmosphere throughout.

In the living room, functionality meets intention through custom feng shui-inspired cabinetry. A bespoke overhead cabinet above the sofa was carefully designed to serve dual purposes—enhancing spatial harmony while doubling as an elevated pathway and resting spot for the cats. This integration reflects the couple’s desire to create a home that feels balanced, personal, and attuned to both human and pet needs.

The Final Look

Kitchen

We reimagined the original layout to include a semi-open kitchen that fosters a more connected living experience. A semi-transparent glass partition allows light to flow through while offering the flexibility to separate the space when needed.

To maintain visual continuity, seamless doors were meticulously integrated into custom wooden wall panels, ensuring that functional elements remain discreet. This approach not only enhances the overall aesthetic but also supports the couple’s preference for a clean, uncluttered environment.

The Final Look

“I found this project especially exciting as a cat mom myself. It felt intuitive to step into Paul and Irene’s shoes—I naturally began imagining how both they and their cats would move through and live in the space. That perspective made it easier to map out a design that feels not only functional, but genuinely comfortable for everyone at home.”

Master Bedroom

Designed as a private retreat, the master bedroom extends into a multifunctional space tailored to Irene’s daily rituals. Connected by a sleek sliding door, this “her” room serves as a study, makeup area, and reading space.

Positioned by the window, a cozy reading nook allows natural light to take center stage—perfect for quiet moments throughout the day. The layout reflects the couple’s decision to maintain separate personal spaces, supporting both individuality and comfort within a shared home.

Bathrooms (En suite and Guest)

En Suite:

Concealed within the continuous expanse of blonde wood paneling, the en suite bathroom is designed to blend seamlessly into the bedroom environment. Its discreet presence reinforces the home’s clean lines and minimalist language, allowing functionality to exist without visual interruption.

Guest Bathroom:

The guest bathroom continues the home’s cohesive design language while incorporating subtle pet-friendly considerations. Materials and finishes were selected for durability and ease of maintenance, ensuring the space remains practical for everyday use.

Across the home, design decisions were made with the couple’s cats in mind—from integrated cabinetry features to open circulation paths—creating an environment that is both refined and comfortably livable for all its inhabitants.
