The Brief:
Two sisters, purchased this 40 plus year old apartment in Tai Koo Shing and wanted a full remodel to modernise the outdated space. Their main requests were converting the closed kitchen into an open plan format, enlarging and reshaping the bathroom to create two similarly sized bedrooms, and building a walk in wardrobe by splitting the master bedroom. They also sought a bright, functional home with strong project management and the integration of a built in LG Styler.

We transformed the old fashioned layout into a modern, efficient home through spatial reconfiguration, demolition, and thoughtful design. The sisters loved our one point of contact approach, flexible virtual meetings, and full material procurement support.

Living Room
We designed the living room to feel spacious, bright, and highly functional within the rectangular layout. Our design manager custom built a shoe closet that cleverly doubles as a partition between the sofa and dining area.
This smart solution separates the two zones with different functionalities while maintaining the overall openness and flow of the flat. By removing the kitchen wall, the living area now enjoys better natural light and seamless connection to the rest of the home, creating a comfortable space perfect for relaxation and daily living.

Dining Room
The dining area was integrated thoughtfully into the open plan layout, making it ideal for meals and entertaining. With the open kitchen nearby and the custom shoe closet partition, the space flows naturally while keeping a clean and uncluttered feel that maximises the usable area of the apartment.
Open Kitchen
Demolishing the wall between the kitchen and living area created much better flow and natural light. We also designed a clever diagonal storage space next to the fridge — a multi-functional unit that serves as a pantry, cleaning supply storage, and more. This seamless addition provides valuable extra storage without compromising the open and spacious feel of the kitchen, living, and dining areas. The new open kitchen is practical, modern, and perfectly connected to both the living and dining areas.

Bathroom
We enlarged and completely reconfigured the bathroom, transforming a typical Hong Kong flat bathroom into a more spacious and luxurious space. The expanded layout now comfortably fits a standing walk-in shower with glass enclosure, a larger vanity with ample storage, and additional built-in shelving.
These changes turned the old, cramped bathroom into a modern, light-filled wet room with excellent storage while also improving the proportions of the adjacent bedrooms.

Walk-in Closet
We transformed part of the original master bedroom into a dedicated walk in wardrobe featuring custom built cabinets and shelving designed to neatly organise everything from daily clothing to handbags and accessories.
To tackle Hong Kong’s humid summers — where there was no space for a separate air conditioner — our design manager Lisa cleverly added faux vent holes in the connecting wall. This smart solution allows cool air from the adjacent bedroom’s AC to circulate through the wardrobe, keeping clothes dry and protected from humidity.

By splitting the original master bedroom and enlarging the bathroom, we created two similarly sized, balanced bedrooms. The new layout feels much more comfortable and equitable for the two sisters, with improved proportions and a refreshed, modern aesthetic tailored to their lifestyle.
